Sarah Mellor

Sarah Mellor

Sarah Mellor is a crime writer and psychological therapist in her adopted city of Liverpool, where she’s lived for nearly 30 years.

She has been writing – and dreaming of being a writer - for as long as she can remember. She loves crime novels, particularly stories with lots of twists and turns, and this was her aim when starting her series of 1970s-set books featuring Detective Leigh Borrowdale and her partner, Des Chung. Influenced by Sarah’s own experiences of growing up in the times, the first novel is set in the snowy landscape of the winter of 1979 and charts a spiralling game of betrayal and revenge, with more than one unexpected twist.

As well as the atmospheric location of Liverpool, Sarah also draws inspiration from the Isle of Man. Although she spent her early years in a Nottinghamshire village, like her main character, she has Manx heritage - the result of her Everton-born grandmother running away from home, catching a ferry to the Isle of Man, and meeting a Manxman.

When not writing, Sarah continues to practice as a therapist, avidly reads crime novels, and spends time with her husband and grown-up daughter. She has also written on mental health, including editing a journal for therapists.

Sarah has signed a deal for her debut novel with a major publisher. The book, due to be published in the spring of 2025, is the first in a series.
