Alice James

Alice James was born in Staffordshire, where she grew up reading novels and spending a lot of time with sheep. She was lucky enough to have a mother who was addicted to science fiction and a father who was fond of long country walks, so she grew up with her head in the stars and her feet on the ground.

She trained as a COBOL programmer, after which she shifted direction and worked as a journalist and then a travel writer before turning to novel writing. She also, weirdly, has a degree in Maths from Bristol University – and half of a diploma in silversmithing From UCE University because it turned out that making the ladies’ version of the One Ring was a lot harder than she thought. She likes cats and ramen noodles and lives in a converted chapel in Oxfordshire because when people tell you that you will grow out of being a Goth, what they actually mean is that they’d like their black leather coat back now.

You never grow out of being a Goth.

Her go-to comfort dish is a big plate of dumplings, her number one cocktail is a Manhattan and her favourite polygon is a triangle, though she has a soft spot for concave rhomboids.

Alice’s series of paranormal whodunits, The Lavington Windsor Mysteries, is being published by Rebellion. The first book, Grave Secrets, is out now with Grave Danger out in May 2023 and Grave Suspicions in late 2023.
